That's right! We are currently in the process of building our Florida house. Let me take a moment to explain how we got here.
As soon as we arrived in FL we began the hunt for a house. We put in several offers, but always got outbid. Houses that needed lots of updating and we were bidding sometimes 20k over asking. I was getting so discouraged because our apartment lease was only 8 months and I knew building a home would take a lot longer than that. Before we left TN I had scheduled an appointment with a couple of builders in the area just to get more information incase we did have to end up extending our lease and building. When I tell you God closes doors so he can open up others, this was a God thing.
We get to our meeting with the builder and it was the last day of the month. The way this builder works is that one the 1st of every month they release a list of "home sites" that are available for purchase. These houses are non completed, you are simply signing a contract for the lot and the floorplan. These houses take anywhere from 14-20 months to complete from this point. While I was looking at the list one house caught my eye. It was the perfect size, price, and had an estimated completion date of Feb 2022 which was perfect because our lease is up in March of 2022. Long story short, this particular house was already under construction. The lady had signed the original contract in Oct 2020, but decided a few days before our meeting with the builder that she no longer wanted to go through with the build. So after looking at the lot, and walking through the floor plan, we couldn't sign on the dotted line fast enough! Everything just fell into place and it was definitely a God thing that the timing worked out just right. The only downfall is that we are not able to change ANYTHING that the original buyer had chosen. We can't even change paint colors. The good news is that the only two things I would have chosen differently are the countertops and the floors, both of which we will end up replacing down the road.
