How to Style a Farmhouse Hutch

I dreamed of a white hutch for a long, long time. I searched our yard sale pages for months, and finally got lucky and landed a beautiful brown hutch for $50! I knew it just needed some patience and a can of paint and it would be stunning! The only problem was, what was I going to do with it? I always dreamed of having a hutch in my dining room, but honestly our dining room is just too small. So I decided I wanted it to be in a place where I could see it and enjoy it everyday, our main living area/room. The issue I ran into was figuring out how to style it. I didn't want to put dishes and kitchen themed items in it. I also didn't want to spend money trying to fill a hutch when I already had stuff laying around our house that I knew I could use.

Here is a little peek at what this space looked like before...

and now...it's quite amazing what a little bit of re-arranging and paint will do!

The antlers I got from my dad from a deer that he had gotten when he went hunting. The 3 glass jars are milk jugs that I had gotten in the Target dollar spot to use for a party, and decided they were the perfect size to use in the hutch. The sticks inside them were part of a floral arrangement I got at Home  Goods that I was no longer using. The white pitcher was something I had had for years and just never quite found the perfect spot for until now. The white basket was an item that I was using in our kitchen but decided to move some stuff around and it found it's way into the hutch as well.  The boxwood wreath was another little something that I had laying around. I got it from Decor Steals 2 or 3 years ago and have always loved how small it was to add just a little touch to random spaces. I also already had the basket above the hutch and just filled it with white linens that we had laying around in our linen closet. The only thing that I did purchase new for this space was the botanical prints surrounding the hutch. The prints themselves were free, I just had to pay to get them printed at Walmart in 5x7 size which cost me around $5. You can find the link to the free printable's here. The frames were also from Walmart Better Homes and Gardens line and were around $9 a piece. So Total I had about $40 in this project ($90 with the cost of the hutch), especially since I already had the paint for the hutch on hand. I love, love, love how this space turned out and I definitely think it helps add to the farmhouse touch we have going on.

What do you all think about hutches in non-traditional rooms?
